Christian Eriksen suffers cardiac arrest on the field, Euro 2020 match postponed

The Euro-2020 match between Denmark and Finland was interrupted in the first half. The reason was an incident shortly before halftime, when Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen fell on the field and required extensive medical assistance.

The ball was thrown in from the sideline to Eriksen. He returned the football to his teammate and collapsed on the field, losing consciousness. A medical team appeared on the field, performing CPR, and a defibrillator was used. According to a former doctor of the Russian national football team, these measures are used in case of cardiac arrest.

Medical assistance was provided for about 15 minutes. All this time, the Danish national team players blocked the view of Eriksen with their bodies, preventing the operators from capturing the player. Eventually, after 15 minutes of assistance, the stretcher with the player on it was covered with a cloth, and the players along with the medics carried the player off the field.

After leaving the stadium, Eriksen was taken by ambulance. According to the Danes’ statement, he regained consciousness and is in the hospital. Doctors continue to examine him.

The match was decided to be postponed. The date and time have not been announced yet.
