Barcelona Announces Contract Termination with Ronald Koeman

FC Barcelona is now without a head coach. The club’s management has terminated the contract with Ronald Koeman.

The reason for terminating the employment agreement was the unsatisfactory results of the team. In the last matchday, Barcelona lost to Rayo Vallecano (0:1), and in the previous one, they were defeated in El Clasico (1:2).

In the Champions League, the team’s performance is also poor. After three matchdays, the Blaugrana have only three points, earned from their match against Dynamo Kyiv (1:0). They lost the other two matches: to Benfica and Bayern Munich, both by 0:3.

Following the latest defeat, Barcelona’s management held a meeting chaired by the club president. The main topic was the resignation of the Dutch coach. After brief discussions, they decided to terminate Koeman’s contract.

Recall that Ronald Koeman was appointed as Barcelona’s head coach in the summer of 2020, with his contract bought out from the Netherlands national team. In the previous season, the team finished third in the La Liga table and won the Spanish Cup. In the current season, the team is on the verge of failing to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, and in the league, they sit in ninth place with 15 points after 10 matches.
