Roman Evgeniev Called Up to the National Team Instead of Mostovoy

The roster for the Russian national football team for the Euro 2020 has been changed. Instead of Zenit’s midfielder Andrey Mostovoy, Dynamo defender Roman Evgeniev has been added to the list.

The reason for this switch is Andrey’s unfavorable COVID test. For safety reasons, it was decided to make this change. It was previously reported that Mostovoy, who had already recovered from coronavirus, submitted a questionable test.

Roman Evgeniev made his debut for the Russian national team in November 2020 in a match against Serbia (0:5). The defender came on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half with the score at 0:4. The player has been with Moscow’s Dynamo since 2017. In the capital team, he played 57 matches and scored 1 goal.

The European Championship starts on Friday, June 11. On the first match day, there will be a game between the teams of Turkey and Italy. The Russian national team will play its debut match at the Euros on June 12. Their opponent will be the Belgian national team.
