All participants for the Euro 2020 knockout stage have been determined

The full lineup for the Euro 2020 knockout stage is now known. 16 teams will continue the battle for the trophy. On Wednesday, June 23, the list was joined by the teams of Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Spain, and Portugal.

The Germany national team narrowly avoided elimination. They were trailing Hungary (1:2) and risked missing the knockout stage, but equalized in the 84th minute and advanced. This was also good news for Ukraine, as the team secured the last spot available for third-placed teams to qualify for the round of 16.

Portugal was also on the brink, but managed to draw with France (2:2). Both goals for Portugal were scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, both from the penalty spot.

Spain also didn’t secure their spot until the final match, where they crushed Slovakia (5:0). Sweden fought hard and pulled off a late win against Poland (3:2), despite a brace from Robert Lewandowski.

This sets up the following matchups for the Euro 2020 round of 16:

  • Wales — Denmark.
  • Italy — Austria.
  • Belgium — Portugal.
  • Netherlands — Czech Republic.
  • France — Switzerland.
  • Croatia — Spain.

The tournament resumes on June 26.
